TWL Alumni Paddle

Join us for our 3rd annual TWL Alumni Paddle!!

RSVP here.

We are doing a new reach this year from Shady Grove Campground to the FM 1977 bridge.  You can see a video montage of this gentle run here.
We will start to gather at 11:00 a.m with an introduction to the river and an early lunch before hitting the water at noon.  Everyone should be off the water about 3:30 p.m.

In addition to bald eagles, bald cypress, and some deep water for swimming, this outing will include an introduction to the Texas Water Safari.  This uniquely Texan 260-mile-long canoe race has been held from San Marcos to the Gulf for more than half a century. Texas Water Leader Virginia Parker, Executive Director of the San Marcos River Foundation, will be our guide to the race, the custom boats, the culture, and how it all wraps into the ecology, geology, and politics of the river.  She has started and finished eight safaris and holds four records for Female Time & Placement.

Water, Texas Film Festival

Join us for the 10th annual Water, Texas Film Festival!

Water, Texas is a concept, an idea, it’s even a place if you want it to be. It’s anywhere you can think of in the Lone Star State where water matters. Water, Texas is everywhere. From the Davis Mountains to Matagorda Bay, we know that water is the lifeblood of Texas. It supports our landscapes, our lifestyle and our economy. Because everything we love about Texas is rooted in our water, we want to hear your water stories. What does water mean to you?

In addition to showcasing the winning films, the 10th Annual Water Texas, Film Festival will feature a preview of the upcoming documentary Life on the Neches River created by Ellen Temple and Curtis Craven with work by Ron Kabele and Thad Sitton. The film gives viewers of all ages the opportunity to know and to celebrate the hidden beauty and crucial environmental value of the Neches with people who live on it, enjoy, study, and preserve it, and who are as diverse as the plants and wildlife that also call it home. Following the special look at the film, the creators will take the stage for a panel discussion on the creation of, and stories behind, the documentary.Visit https://www.watertexasfilms.org/ for more information.

Ask the Questions: SB 28 & Prop 6 Debrief with TWDB

As many of you know, SB 28 /SJR 75 were the 88th Texas Legislature’s headline water bills, and have resulted in a constitutional amendment (Prop 6) that will be on the ballot on November 7th to create the Texas Water Fund. As leaders in the field, we want to make sure you feel equipped to talk about what the Texas Water Fund is, what it would do, and what comes next.

To support you, we are fortunate to have TWL Alumnus Bryan McMath and Kathleen Ligon with Texas Water Development Board providing you with a special virtual briefing on Monday, August 30 at 4:00 PM. This is intended to be casual, factual, and an opportunity to ask all the questions. So tune in, wherever you are.
