Inspiring all Texans to know the vital role water plays in our daily lives

Water is for every Texan and every Texan should be for water. Texas Water Foundation is working to inspire Texan’s pride of place with the water that it takes to keep it running.

As Texas considers how to address the steep population growth projected by our state demographers and the growing water budget gap identified in our State Water Plan, the question of how to inspire Texans to conserve water is paramount. The 2017 State Water Plan projects that over 40% of future water supplies will need come from conservation and reuse.

In 2018, a group of partners reinitiated a conversation on the need for a statewide water campaign. This need has been identified in several pieces of landmark water legislation, as well as in the legislative recommendations of the Water Conservation Advisory Council. Texas Water Foundation has taken the lead in that effort, developing a statewide campaign concept inspired by the success of Don’t Mess with Texas.

Unlike Don’t Mess with Texas, the issue and the solution for water are not singular. Water is nuanced, location specific, and requires an integrated approach. Building on the expertise of a broad range of water professionals, we have developed a statewide campaign concept called Texas Runs on Water.

The campaign is designed to speak to a broad and inclusive audience, linking the value of water to our pride of all things Texas.

Texas Runs on Water is a statewide umbrella campaign that can be localized to particular communities or regions, and combined with local priorities. Our hope is that all Texans will start to believe that everything they love about Texas is rooted in water.
