Informing and Driving Statewide Water Policy Dialogue

TWF plays a unique role in statewide water policy. We are subject matter experts that maintain a neutral position, allowing us to be both a trusted resource and a convenor for hard conversations. While we do not engage in direct advocacy or take positions on specific bills, agency actions, or  projects, we do work to ensure water is prioritized through educational resources, events, and select research. We believe that digestible education on statewide water policy and increased trust within and across the water sector results in better decisions.

Supporting the development of policy for a secure water future is a long game. It happens within the walls of the Texas Capitol every other year during a legislative session, but it also happens at state agencies, in local and regional planning groups, and in media coverage. TWF works year round to maintain the momentum and prioritization of water. Our policy team provides almost weekly briefings on the State of Texas water, regularly design and moderate panels, drive or facilitate needed research opportunities, and track state and national policy developments. Behind the scenes, we serve as a media resource for fact-checking and source connections. These efforts support the elevation and prioritization of water statewide.
