TWF maintains a unique and neutral role in statewide policy dialogue. We do not take a position or engage in advocacy. Instead, we, and our board of legacy water champions, are grounded in the long proven history that educated and informed leaders make better decisions that inspire future leaders to do the same. 

Impacting policies toward water security is a long game. It happens within the walls of the Texas Capitol once every two years during legislative session, but it doesn’t stop there. The work of engaging decision makers and stakeholders together in policy dialogue and collaboration is as dynamic as the state of water in Texas itself. To maintain momentum and to ensure water policy continues to be based on the most current data and circumstances, TWF works year round, in and out of session, to bring up to date expertise to the conversation. Our policy team regularly engages in speaking opportunities, panel building and moderation, research studies, legislative tracking, and briefings for groups of all sizes, while serving as a media resource for fact checking and source connections. This way, as each successive legislative session approaches, these efforts support the elevation and prioritization of water statewide, as demonstrated in the 89th Texas Legislature.
