IMPACT: EDUCATION
Educating Everyday Texans
So much of our work at Texas Water Foundation focuses on decision makers, water leaders, and sector-specific stakeholders. However, we also know that all of this work centers around a water secure future for more than 30 million Texans and the decisions they make individually and collectively.
Texas water policy, infrastructure, and funding can be complex, making it hard for the everyday Texan to see their role. Translating that complexity into digestible, comprehensive language that speaks directly to the individual informs all our education efforts. As an organization, we provide educational offerings including policy overviews and media toolkits around specific water efforts. Our Water, Texas Film Festival engages the community at the intersection of water and art, helping tell the story of water through a creative lens. We also serve as a resource for media outlets and writers who seek to represent the state of Texas water accurately and in plain language. But our primary vehicle for educating everyday Texans started as a dream for some of Texas’ legacy water champions…a statewide education campaign, loosely based on the model of the Don’t mess with Texas® anti-littering campaign. The realization of that dream was Texas Runs on Water®, a branded campaign designed to inspire and educate Texans and the foundational groundwork leading into the first official statewide water awareness campaign.
