Presenting the 2025 Rio Grande/Río Bravo Binational River Symposium Agenda

Austin, Texas - The 2025 Binational Rio Grande/ Rio Bravo River Symposium will reconvene stakeholders from across the basin on November 5-7 in McAllen, Texas. Building on the objective of advancing trust and collaboration through science, this year’s dialogue invites more stakeholders participation and an opportunity to reflect on what the river could be in 2050.

The Rio Grande/ Rio Bravo Symposium comes at a challenging moment in water policy history. Drought in the upper basin and unprecedented demand throughout the river's watershed are driving state and federal policy. Decreasing supply and increasing costs are forcing industries and communities along the river to assess their future. Increasingly, the basic functions of the river to move salt and sediment are coming to a standstill.

For these reasons, and many others, it has never been more important for stakeholders to have a forum to discuss challenges and solutions for increasing water security along the Rio Grande.

With a focus on the river in 2050, the symposium will offer opportunities to:

  • Paddle the river with the heads of state agencies and community leaders.

  • Engage directly with the Work Groups formed under Minute 331.

  • Join breakout discussion tables and have your perspectives included in conference proceedings.

  • Hear reflections from former leadership in Mexico and United States on lessons learned.

  • Socialize with leaders from all regions of the basin to find common ground.
